Current status – Integral Cradles completed construction works in 2017. GIND UK is looking after the ongoing warrantied maintenance works.

Project

66 Chiltern Street (replacing International House) was completed in 2017. The new 15-storey residential building now includes 55 luxury apartments, retail facilities and a new townhouse along Chiltern Street in the heart of Marylebone Village in London. The building was constructed according to the designs of PLP Architecture, features an intricate façade, clad in hand-set terracotta tiles, and is articulated with generous bays and balconies. Providing an access system that respected this fragile terracotta cladding was a challenge that the designers at Integral Cradles relished.

Integral Cradles was appointed by main contractor MACE Construction Ltd on behalf of developer Ronson Capital Partners, to provide a single, static BMU with a reach of 24,400mm, which is parked in a tight roof space, hidden from view. The team took an innovative approach, with extensive use of BIM design.

To achieve 100% façade cover, a satellite cradle was supplied, which can be connected to the main cradle when accessing the recesses in between the balconies.

In addition to the efficient installation of the static BMU, a manual chariot including guide rails were provided, allowing operatives to access a lower, unprotected roof safely.

Since the project completion, the equipment has been maintained, and is currently looked after by the manufacturer’s maintenance agent for the UK, GIND UK.
