Sustainability has never been of such importance to industries in all sectors, not least construction and FM. Looking for ways to be environmentally and socially responsible – reducing carbon emissions, having a truly diverse workforce and giving something back to the communities we work in – is no longer a ‘nice thing to do’. It is the only way to work.
Integral Cradles and GIND UK have pledged to take their place amongst the most ambitious organisations, committing to a becoming Net Zero Carbon business by 2026.
One example of sustainability in action in the projects of both Integral Cradles and GIND UK is the access solution implemented integrated into one at 52 Lime Street, London (The Scalpel). Photovoltaic cells were integrated into the moving roof of the , which collect solar energy to convert to power to add back to the building during use – so there is a net benefit for the building for that sustainable option.
The solution at 52 Lime Street – designed and installed by Integral Cradles, with partner company GIND UK carrying out an ongoing warrantied maintenance contract – received the top prize in the ‘Partners in Corporate – Private Sector’ category of the 2018 PFM Partnership Awards. The judges described the access solution as:
“A unique design and installation of two complex BMUs and intricate moving roofs to house them in new high profile commercial London skyscraper. The solution designed and installed at The Scalpel reaches a whole new level – a clear exemplar of innovative good partnership practice.
“We saw strong personal team relationships resulting in high levels of good management practices to handle a complex project.
“The levels of enthusiasm were par excellence and it was difficult to find fault.”
