Access equipment designed and installed by the team from Integral Cradles at 52 Lime Street is being utilised by engineers to replace glass on the sheer sides of the skyscraper.
The Scalpel, a commercial skyscraper in the City of London, is 190 metres tall, offers 35 levels of office space, over 500,000 square feet of commercial space and over 12,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. The skyscraper takes up its position in the city alongside The Gherkin and The Cheesegrater, contributing to one of the most recognised skylines in the world. The steel-framed structure is built with a reinforced concrete core.
Integral Cradles installed two building maintenance units in 2018 on the east and west elevations of the building – two of the largest such units ever seen. The unit installed on the west side of the building is the larger of the two. It has a 19-metre operating radius, is 49 metres in height, weighs 41,300 kg and has a 1,000kg glass replacement capacity.
The unit on the east of the building has a 13.935m operating radius, is 24.5 metres high, weighs 36,800 kg and has a 100kg glass replacement capacity.
GIND UK, the warrantied maintenance provider and sister company of Integral Cradles, is currently on site at 52 Lime Street. Its team is providing trained competent engineering attendance to support the safety critical activity of glass replacement.
