Integral Cradles completes factory testing for The Edge at London Bridge

Integral Cradles has successfully completed factory acceptance testing (FAT) for a sophisticated building maintenance unit (BMU) destined for The Edge at London Bridge, marking the second project the company is delivering for MACE in the area during 2025.

The Edge installation follows Integral Cradles’ successful delivery at the neighbouring Chapter London Bridge site earlier this year, where the company completed a two-day installation for MACE.

The two projects demonstrate the strength of the partnership between the two companies and MACE’s continued confidence in Integral Cradles’ ability to deliver complex façade access solutions for high-profile London developments.

Factory acceptance testing is a key stage in the delivery of building maintenance units, allowing clients and project teams to witness the equipment in operation before it arrives on site. The comprehensive testing process verifies that all mechanical, electrical, and safety systems function correctly and meet the specified performance requirements.

By conducting thorough factory testing, Integral Cradles ensures that any adjustments or refinements can be made in a controlled environment, significantly reducing the risk of delays during site installation.

The BMU system for The Edge comprises a traversing unit with an impressive 21-metre reach, designed to provide comprehensive façade access across the building. The system features a 650kg auxiliary winch, providing substantial lifting capability for maintenance tasks.

A highlight of the BMU system is its slewing cradle, specially engineered to access the building’s under hang.

Discussing the factory acceptance testing, Kevin Walton, Managing Director at Integral Cradles, said:

“Completing factory acceptance testing for The Edge represents another significant milestone in our partnership with MACE. The testing process has demonstrated that this sophisticated system, with its slewing cradle and substantial reach, performs exactly as designed. Following our successful installation at Chapter London Bridge earlier this year, we’re looking forward to delivering the same high standards at The Edge.”

With factory acceptance testing now complete, the BMU system will be prepared for delivery to The Edge, where Integral Cradles’ specialist installation team will oversee its installation.

Following installation, GIND UK, Integral Cradles’ maintenance partner, will provide ongoing maintenance services for both The Edge and Chapter London Bridge BMU systems, ensuring both installations continue to operate safely and efficiently throughout their lifecycle.

The dual project at London Bridge underlines the collaborative relationship between Integral Cradles and MACE, built on a foundation of technical expertise, reliable delivery, and innovative problem-solving.

Kevin added:

“Being entrusted with two significant projects in the same area demonstrates the confidence MACE places in our ability to deliver complex access solutions. The Edge presents its own unique challenges with the building under hang, and our slewing cradle solution showcases the innovative thinking we bring to our projects. We’re proud to be contributing to these important developments at London Bridge and look forward to a successful installation soon.”
