Integral Cradles completes sophisticated BMU installation at The Edge, London Bridge

Integral Cradles, a leading provider of specialist access solutions, has successfully completed the installation of a sophisticated building maintenance unit (BMU) at The Edge, located at 60-68 St Thomas Street, London Bridge, on behalf of MACE.

The project, which follows comprehensive factory acceptance testing (FAT) completed last year, has now progressed to the testing and commissioning phase, marking another significant milestone in Integral Cradles’ portfolio of complex access solutions for prestigious London developments.

The Edge benefits from a state-of-the-art BMU system comprising a traversing unit with an impressive 21-metre reach, engineered to provide comprehensive façade access across the building. The system features a robust 650kg auxiliary winch, delivering substantial lifting capability for maintenance operations.

A particular highlight of the installation is the BMU’s slewing cradle, which has been specially engineered to access the building’s under hang, demonstrating Integral Cradles’ expertise in developing bespoke solutions for complex architectural features.

Factory acceptance testing undertaken last year proved instrumental in ensuring the smooth progression of the project. This crucial stage in the delivery process allowed Skanska and the project team to witness the equipment in full operation before its arrival on site, verifying that all mechanical, electrical, and safety systems functioned correctly and met the specified performance requirements.

By conducting thorough factory testing, Integral Cradles was able to identify and implement any necessary adjustments or refinements in a controlled environment, significantly reducing the risk of delays during the site installation phase.
