Integral Cradles has completed its first Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) installation of 2025 at The Chapter, an exciting new student accommodation development near London Bridge. This is the first of two BMUs being delivered for Mace as part of a double project in the area, with the second installation at The Edge, a neighbouring site, planned for later this year.
The installation at The Chapter was completed in just two days, highlighting the precision and efficiency of our team. The BMU is designed to navigate the building’s complex façade, running on 23 metres of twin tracks and featuring a maximum reach of 23.25 metres.
Key features of the BMU include:
- An auxiliary hoist unit with a 1,000kg capacity, providing additional lifting capability for maintenance tasks.
- A twin baby cage for flexible and safe access across all areas of the façade.
- A ski arrangement to tackle the undulations of the façade with ease.
This installation plays a key role in The Chapter’s ability to maintain its striking design. The development, part of Mace’s work to transform the London Bridge area, will provide high-quality student accommodation across 39 storeys, along with ground-floor retail units and public spaces.
As with all our projects, the BMU has been tailored to suit the specific needs of the building, providing practical and reliable access for years to come.
With the BMU at The Chapter now operational, our focus turns to the next phase of this double project – installing a BMU at The Edge later this year.
These projects highlight Integral Cradles’ continued partnership with Mace in delivering innovative access solutions for some of London’s most ambitious developments.
