Integral Cradles has secured a contract to design, supply, install and commission two building maintenance units (BMUs) for Phase 2 of the Ebury Bridge regeneration in Westminster, working with main contractor McLaren Construction (Regeneration) on behalf of Westminster City Council.
Located between Knightsbridge and Belgravia, Ebury Bridge is one of Westminster City Council’s largest regeneration projects. The scheme will completely rebuild an existing 1930s estate, shaping the public realm and creating new communities and a sustainable neighbourhood. The council has appointed McLaren Construction (Regeneration) as main construction partner for the second phase, with a phase two budget of £229m approved for the overall construction of the development.
Under the contract, secured in September 2026, Integral Cradles will provide one BMU on each of two blocks. Both are static units with a telescopic mast and an outreach of 28m, and each is fitted with a 750kg glass lifting hoist to support glass replacement.
Installation will begin on Block 5 in January 2028, followed by Block 6 in June 2028.
A key factor in securing the contract was Integral Cradles’ ability to design the BMUs to the required loading, a core requirement for meeting the expectations of the Building Safety Regulator (BSR). The team also took a proactive and persistent approach in supporting McLaren Construction to meet those expectations throughout the process.
Discussing the contract award, Kevin Walton, Managing Director at Integral Cradles, said: “Ebury Bridge is a hugely important regeneration scheme for Westminster, and we are proud to be playing our part in it. The loading requirements on this project were demanding, and our design team’s ability to engineer BMUs that met them was central to our appointment.”
“Working with the Building Safety Regulator’s expectations is now a fundamental part of delivering access equipment on residential schemes like this. Our team has worked closely alongside McLaren Construction to give them the confidence that the solution will perform and comply, and we look forward to delivering it with them.”
The award adds to Integral Cradles’ growing portfolio of residential and regeneration projects across London.
